Local Plymouth sailor wins Figaro division of Fastnet race

Local Plymouth sailor Sam Matson has won the Figaro division of the Rolex Fastnet Race.

The 24-year-old, studied at Plymouth University, and lived there for 4 years before turning to professional sailing full time.

He returned to Plymouth in 2014 with the Solitaire du Figaro where he became a local hero, after winning the Rookie division of the race.

Sam is now a well known face in the region, where he sails solo in his Figaro Bénéteau II.

This year he finished 13th overall in the 2,000 mile Solitaire. This is his fourth Fastnet Race.
