Two Cornish shellfish beds have been closed for the second time after tests showed higher levels of the E.coli bacteria.

One bed is on the Helford Rier and the other on the Camel Estuary.

Earlier this month, sixteen beds had to be closed temporarily after tests found higher levels of E.coli.

The beds were re-tested and found to be clear and now the Food Standards agency is holding an investigation into why those results were so high.

We would expect to see an increase in E.coli levels following periods of heavy rain, which was experienced prior to the samples being collected.

Further samples will be taken this week and when results of analysis show levels have returned to within the required parameters, the two shellfish beds in question will be re-opened.
