Bristol City clinch League One title

Bristol City are champions of League One.

The Ashton Gate club only needed a point after nearest rivals Preston could only draw at Port Vale last night.

And City's 0-0 stalemate with Coventry this afternoon was enough to secure their first league title in 60 years.

Swindon's automatic promotion hopes have been dented after losing 1-0 to West Country rivals Yeovil at the County Ground. James Berrett scored the only goal in the 58th minute, to maintain Paul Sturrock's unbeaten start as Glovers manager.

Cheltenham's hopes of avoiding relegation to the Conference have suffered a set-back after losing 2-0 at Northampton. But rivals Tranmere and Hartlepool also lost, so Gary Johnson's side remain second-from-bottom and one point from safety with two games left.

The two-horse race for the Conference title will go to the final game of the season. Both Bristol Rovers and Barnet drew today, so the Pirates are still a point behind their rivals. Ellis Harrison scored Rovers' goal at Dover. The hosts rescued a point two minutes from time.

And Forest Green Rovers came from behind to win 4-2 at Gateshead, thanks to a Jon Parkin double, Kurtis Guthrie and Rob Sinclair.
