A year ago today Hollie Gazzard was stabbed to death in the hairdressing salon where she worked in Gloucester.

The attack was carried out by her former boyfriend Asher Maslin. He's now been sentenced to a minimum of 18 years in prison.

This evening her family will gather outside the salon where she worked for a service of remembrance.

Her father Nick says hundreds of people are expected to attend.

We want it to be a celebration, because it is a year since Hollie has died. And lot of good things have happened in that year, since she has died, so we wanted to celebrate her life, and all those people who have helped us throughout that year to join us and celebrate as well.

– Nick Gazzard, Hollie's father

Since Hollie's death, her family and friends have worked tirelessly to combat domestic abuse. The Home Secretary has issued a statement to mark the anniversary of Hollie's murder.

I offer my condolences to Hollie Gazzard’s family on the first anniversary of her tragic murder.

I commend the work of her family to set up the Hollie Gazzard Trust in her honour. It is to stop cases like Hollie’s that I have brought forward legislation to criminalise coercive and controlling behaviour. I have also placed domestic homicide reviews on a statutory footing to make sure lessons are learnt from these individual tragedies.

The best thing we can do to honour the memory of Hollie and other victims is to work to end all violence against women and girls.

– Theresa May MP, Home Secretary
