Mothers who breastfeed are less likely to get postnatal depression
A study of women in Bristol has found that new mothers who breastfeed their babies are less likely to get postnatal depression. The researchers surveyed 14 thousand babies in the area over time during the 1990s and learned that breastfeeding, in addition to the well-established benefits to babies, helps the mental health of their mums. Those who planned to breastfeed and went on to do so were 50 percent less likely to become depressed than those who hadn't.
