Bike accident theory over mine body

A man found dead at a mine works in Cornwall is believed to have had a serious cycling accident, police said.

The body of David Alderson, 72, was discovered within the grounds of the works, at Wheal Maid, near Carharrack.

Mr Alderson, a keen cyclist from Falmouth, was found by a dog walker at the former copper mine at around 9am on Saturday.

Inquiries suggest that the male has had a serious accident within the works and subsequently died at the scene.

Mr Alderson was known to be a keen cyclist.

Whilst a cycling accident is suspected, a bicycle has not yet been located in the proximity of Mr Anderson.

It is likely that the bike would have looked as though it had been abandoned and anyone recovering it for safe-keeping is urged to contact the police.

We ask that anyone who has knowledge Mr Alderson, or of a bike recovered from the area, to please contact the police to assist with the investigation.

Mr Alderson was wearing a blue fleece, dark Ron Hill running trousers and black Specialised Sport TR cycling shoes when he was discovered on Saturday.
