Community radio station hits the airwaves

A new not-for-profit community radio station will launch tomorrow in Exmouth.

The UK's communications regulator Ofcom granted Bay FM Radio a five-year license.

Councillors on East Devon District Council's Development Management Committee recently backed an application for a 20m radio mast to be located at Withycombe Raleigh Common. This will allow the station to broadcast to wider areas in East Devon.

We had to wait for Ofcom to clear our new frequency number which I can now confirm is 106.4 FM, and the site for our new transmitter.

We wanted to get our mast in this location because we recognised that areas in East Devon are under served by local radio, so we're really pleased to be able to serve these areas better now from this location.

We’ve been planning this for seven years – we've had to jump through so many hoops to get it. It's amazing that we are finally launching full-time after seven years hard work.

– Andy Green, station manager, Bay FM

The station is now testing on 106.4FM, and can be heard in Exmouth, Budleigh Salterton, Woodbury, Lympstone, Ottery St Mary, Newton Poppleford, Sidmouth and Seaton.
