Winterbourne View promises not met

A report following the Winterbourne View scandal has found a pledge to move people out of institutions and into the community has not been met. 11 workers were convicted of abusing patients at the South Gloucestershire care home in 2011.

Owners of Winterbourne View say treatment of patients was "entirely unacceptable"

After eleven care workers plead guilty to the ill-treatment of patients at the Winterbourne View care home near Bristol, Castlebeck - it's owners - respond.

The treatment of patients by former members of staff at Winterbourne View... was entirely unacceptable and we deeply regret this.

Over the last 15 months significant changes have taken place throughout the group to ensure and maintain the welfare and safety of all those who use our services. This is a continuing process and remains our top priority at all times.

The 150 special reports on learning disability services... undertaken by CQC demonstrated that the events at Winterbourne View were a wake-up call to the sector as a whole.
