Bloodhound: supersonic car reaching a record-breaking speed

Newquay Airport is warning passengers to allow extra time if they are heading to the airport. It's due to the Bloodhound SSC test runs taking place on the runway on the 26, 28 and 30 October which will mean extra traffic in the area.

Staff say that they are operating as normal and add that there will be security restrictions on parking, as well as at the drop off and pick up points.

They also want to make people aware that the supersonic car tests cannot be viewed from the airport car parks.

It is at the Hakskeen Pan in the Mier area of the Northern Cape, South Africa - where the Bloodhound could break the record for the fastest speed on land, reaching 1000mph.

For now, it will be driven in public, for the first time, in Newquay, Cornwall reaching 200mph.

Tomorrow, 26 October, the Bloodhound's driver Andy Green will be putting the super sonic car through its paces in its first public outing.

The Bloodhound SSC team have been working tirelessly for the last five years on the one-of-a-kind vehicle, in the hopes it will "inspire the next generation to get involved in science, technology, engineering" and "set a new World Land Speed Record of 1,000mph".

Tomorrow, 26 October, the international spotlight will be on a Bristol-built supercar, hoping to become the world's fastest, as it's tested in public for the first time.

The Bloodhound is due to eventually speed along the South African desert at a 1000 miles per hour.

Earlier today, the project received the blessing of the Prime Minister, who said it shows what a leader in sciences and innovation the UK is.
