A community has said farewell to a 12-year old boy who died from head injuries after being involved in a freak accident while watching a football match.

Hundreds of mourners attended the funeral of Oliver Croker this afternoon in Bampton, near Tiverton.

After his death, his family revealed his organs had been used the save the lives of five other children.

The funeral of 12-year-old Olly Croker, who died in a tragic accident watching a football game in Devon, is being held this afternoon at St Michael and All Angels Church in Bampton.

The rector, Rev Kevin Chandra, says the family are being surrounded by some great people and, although, it is likely to be tough over the coming months, people are looking after them.

School to close at lunchtime for Olly's funeral

The funeral of a 12-year-old schoolboy is due to take place in Devon at 3pm this afternoon.

Oliver Croker from Bampton died in a freak accident while watching a local football match last month. He was hit in the head during the game at Bradninch Football Club and later died.

Olly was a pupil at Tiverton High School, which will be closing at lunchtime so that pupils and staff can go to the service at St Michael and All Angels Church in Bampton.

Those attending the funeral have been invited to wear their favourite football team's shirts in recognition of Olly's love of the sport.

An inquest will be held at a later date after the council has investigated what happened.

Oliver died following an accident at a match last weekend. Remembrance services have been held at Devon and Exeter League clubs in memory of the Bampton supporter.

Football clubs across Devon will hold a minute's silence this Saturday to remember 12-year-old Oliver Croker.

Devon & Exeter League clubs will hold a silence before their matches t in memory of Bampton supporter Olly Croker, who died following an accident a match on Sunday.

A post on the league's website has asked all clubs to take part. The post also says that many clubs have offered to contribute money to Olliver's family.

There has been an outpouring of grief and shock from the community in Bradninch, near Exeter, where 12-year-old Oliver Croker has died after a freak accident at a football match.

Oliver died at Bristol Children's Hospital last night, becoming injured when a post fell and hit him on the head.

People in the community have been laying flowers at the scene of the tragedy, and posting tributes on a Facebook group set up in his memory.

His mother revealed that the family have donated his organs, saying she felt "so proud" that her son could help save the lives of other children.

The mother of a 12-year-old boy killed by a freak accident during a football match has revealed the family donated his organs to transplant patients.

Oliver Croker died after suffering severe head injuries when part of a metal fence at the side of the pitch in Kensham Park in Bradninch, near Exeter, hit him during the game.

In a post on Facebook, his mother Pippa said she felt "so proud" that Oliver could help save the lives of others.

We would very much like you all to feel so proud of Oliver this evening. Through organ donation he has given life to five other children.

He will live on in them. What very lucky boys and girls they are!!! Love you our beautiful gorgeous boy!! X

Cousin posts emotional tribute on Facebook

The cousin of a 12-year-old boy from Bampton in Devon has paid an emotional tribute to him on Facebook.

Lee Croker says it 'was so sad to see him thee in the hospital, he was such a loving, kind and funny kid'.

So yesterday was a tough day... My dear cousin Oliver was taken away from us at the age of 12 from a freak accident. Was so sad to see him there in the hospital he was such a loving, kind and funny kid always loving what he did and my thoughts go out to Pippa, Shaun, Billy, Jack , Liam and Tom. A 12-year-old boy from Bampton in Devon has died from head injuries following an accident at a football match on Saturday.

Oliver Croker died in Bristol Children's Hospital last night. He was injured when a post fell and hit him on the head.

Oliver was treated at the scene at Bradninch FC’s Kensham Park ground before being flown by air ambulance to hospitals in Exeter and then Bristol.

Devon and Cornwall Police can confirm that a 12-year-old boy who sustained serious head injuries whilst spectating at a football match at Bradninch Football club on Saturday 12th September has died overnight.

He was airlifted to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital following the incident before being transferred to Bristol Children’s Hospital where he later died.

His head teacher has described Oliver as a 'sparky lad'

Oliver was a pupil at Tiverton High School. Headmaster Andrew Lovett has paid tribute to him - describing him as a 'sparky lad' and a 'larger than life character'.

It is with great sadness that we hear of the death of Olly Croker in a freak accident at the weekend.

In describing Olly, the first words that come to mind are that he was the life and soul of the party; a larger than life character, brimming with confidence, with an eagerness and enthusiasm for taking part in all aspects of school life. His youthful vibrancy and curiosity about life shaped his whole character.

He was a very knowledgeable and sparky lad with his finger on the pulse of what was going on at school, in the local community and beyond.
