An £11 million bridge that's set to connect Bristol’s Arena Island to the rest of the city has been lowered into place.

The 63-metre steel structure will provide vital access to the arena which is due to open in 2017.

Bristol Arena's first major structure nears completion

Communities minister James Wharton is due in Bristol tomorrow afternoon to see progress on the city's new arena.

He will be shown the 63 metre long bridge that will link spectators to 'Arena island' - as well as the pulley-system that will hoist the giant structure into place within the next few weeks.

Bridge development gives hope for Bristol's Arena

Work began today on a new bridge over the River Avon in Bristol - which it's hoped will kickstart the much-delayed Arena project.

The eleven million pound structure will provide access to development land behind Temple Meads station, earmarked for a concert venue, as well as homes and creative industry. Bob Constantine reports.
