A young Bristol rugby player killed in a suspected 'hit and run' in Clifton was beloved at school and awarded a prize for his contributions when he left, the principal has said.

25-year-old Daniel Hickey attended the Bristol Cathedral Choir School, and later played rugby for the Bristol Saracens.

The school's moving tribute to him joined dozens of others, including thoughts from Bristol mayor George Ferguson.

"Several colleagues here have fond memories of Dan and he was certainly held in high regard as a pupil: when he left in 2008, he was awarded our Becky Westlake Prize for Contributions to the Life of the School.”

22-year-old Tayo Jones from Southville has been charged in connection with Daniel Hickey's death, including causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop after an accident. He appeared in court yesterday and has been remanded in custody until a hearing in October.

Two others, a 39-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man, were also arrested, and are on bail until September 9.

Another person has been arrested in connection with the death of a young man whose body was found in Clifton last week, after a suspected 'hit-and-run'.

25-year-old Daniel John Hickey, a rugby player from Bristol, died from multiple injuries, and was found by a member of the public outside a pub.

A 22-year-old man went to a police station last night, and was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. A 39-year-old woman and 29-year-old man have already been arrested for this, and are on bail until September 9.

Tributes have poured in for Daniel Hickey, who played for the Bristol Saracens, and has been described as a "legend" and "a great friend".

Bristol mayor George Ferguson has also offered his condolences.

Two people released on bail after fatal collision

Two people arrested after a suspected hit-and-run in Bristol have been released on bail.

A 39-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man, who were both arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, have been bailed until 9 September.

They were arrested after the body of a 25-year-old man was found in Gordon Road, Clifton on Saturday morning. A post-mortem found multiple injuries consistent with being hit by a vehicle.

Police have arrested a second person in connection with a fatal collision in Bristol.

A 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and is in custody for questioning.

A 39-year-old woman, who was arrested overnight on suspicion of the same offence, remains in custody.

The arrests come after the body of a man in his twenties was found in Clifton by a member of the public on Saturday morning.

His injuries were consistent with him being involved in a road traffic collision.

Police have arrested a woman on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after the body of a man was found in Bristol

Emergency services were called to the Richmond Pub in Clifton after the a body was found near the University of Bristol's student union on Saturday morning.

A 39-year-old woman has been arrested and remains in custody for questioning.

“We have a team of officers and staff working on this and despite an arrest being made this is still an active and ongoing inquiry.

“A post-mortem examination is due to take place later today to establish the cause of the man’s death and following this a formal identification procedure will take place.

“I’m really grateful for all the support we’ve been already given by the public but we still need people to call in with any information they have.”

Police investigate "unexplained death" of man found outside pub in Clifton

Police are investigating the unexplained death of a man in the Clifton area of Bristol.

A member of the public found the body of a young man in Gordon Road, near The Richmond pub, at around 6.45 this morning.

It's thought the man may have been the victim of a hit and run.

Det Supt Carolyn Belafonte said: “We have evidence which suggests the man may have been involved in a collision and we're focussing our inquiry on locating the vehicle involved.

“I’m appealing to anyone who was in the Clifton area in the early hours of this morning, specifically the area around Gordon Road which is close to the Students’ Union building, to call us if they saw or heard anything suspicious.

“We’re still trying to inform the man’s next of kin so we’re not able to give out any more details about him at this stage.”

Police are investigating the death of a man who is believed to be the victim of a hit-and-run after his body was found outside a pub.

Emergency services were called to the Richmond Pub in Clifton, Bristol, at 6.45am, just yards from the University of Bristol's student union.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: "We were called at 6.45am today by a member of the public after a man's body was find in Gordon Road, Clifton."

Police say they are treating it as unexplained.
