First yachts competing in offshore race arrive in Plymouth

The first yachts have begun arriving in Plymouth in the Rolex Fastnet race.

Jim Clark’s 100-ft American Maxi Comanche has claimed monohull line honours at the 2015 Rolex Fastnet Race.

Arriving in Plymouth at 05:22 BST on Wednesday morning, Comanche completed the 603-nm offshore race in 2 days, 15 hours, 42 minutes and 26 seconds.

The Ken Read-skippered Comanche finished a mere four minutes ahead of her closest rivals, George David’s 88-ft Rambler (USA).

Mike Slade's 100-ft Maxi Leopard (GBR) was third finisher at 06:26 followed by the Maxi 72 Momo (CAY) at 06:57.

Local sailor Henry Bomby is due to arrive tomorrow.
