Election Results 2015: The West Decides

Labour's Chuka Umunna has announced he will be running for leadership of the party whilst on a visit to Swindon.

In a video posted on his Facebook page, Mr Umunna said he had travelled to the town to make the announcement because it was the kind of place where Labour should be winning.

Swindon North's Justin Tomlinson MP has been appointed Minister for the Disabled and Weston-super-Mare's John Penrose MP has become a minister in the Cabinet Office.

A trio of Bristol Labour MPs are on their way to London for their first day of work in Parliament.

Newly elected Thangham Debbonaire - MP for Bristol West - and Karin Smyth - MP for Bristol South - accompanied returning MP Kerry McCarthy on the train this morning. They'll be summoned a week from today.

The three were elected along with Conservative Charlotte Leslie MP in Bristol North West, completing an all female line-up of MPs in the city.

Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of the West of England Professor Steve West has announced that it is important that the University remains focused on its ambitions for the future as the indications point to a Conservative second term this morning.

Professor West wants the sector to be represented in Westminster although universities are usually politically neutral.
