Beloved show War Horse premieres in Bristol

One of the world's most successful theatre productions premiered at the Bristol Hippodrome last night.

War Horse is the story of Joey the horse and his young owner Albert - separated during the first World War. The puppetry in the show has dazzled audiences across the world, and now people in the West have the chance to see what all the fuss is about.

This afternoon, Kylie Pentelow met the writer Michael Morpurgo and some of the actors, ahead of the opening performance:

The hugely successful theatre production of War Horse opens at Bristol Hippodrome tonight.

The production has been seen by more than 6 million people worldwide since its premiere in 2007. It is based on Michael Morpurgo's best-selling novel about a young boy and his beloved horse fighting in the First World War.

The hit show War Horse is coming out of London to perform for audiences in the south west.

The stage show has sold out across the world, and even the Queen is said to be a fan. From next January the play based on Michael Morpurgo's book of the same name will be performed at the Bristol Hippodrome.

The box office opened this morning, and people queueing for tickets were in for a bit of surprise.

The star of the show - the life-size horse puppet 'Joey' gave the crowds a sneak preview of what they can expect.
