Engine shed to be transformed

One of Bristol's most historic buildings is to be transformed into a business hub. Brunel's Engine Shed was once at the heart of the industrial revolution and later housed the Empire and Commonwealth Museum.

But for several years it's been empty, and now the building's about to undergo a restoration. It's part of bigger multi-million pound plan to renovate the whole area and attract more investment in the city. Tanya Mercer reports.

A one and a half million pound refurbishment programme, to turn the engine shed at Bristol Temple Meads into a business centre will create '700 jobs' - according to Professor Eric Thomas from Bristol University.

He says the technologies the university develops will help the local economy.

The Mayor of Bristol, George Ferguson is backing plans to transforms Bristols' engine shed into a business centre. He says it's a "great opportunity" to make use of the empty space.

Brunel's historic Engine Shed at Bristol Temple Meads is to receive a one and a half million pound investment to turn it into a business centre.

It's part of a joint venture between the City Council and Bristol University to attract trade to the region. Twenty companies are expected to move in if the scheme gets the go ahead.
