George Ferguson beat 14 rivals to win the contest to become Bristol's first ever elected mayor. The vote took place on November 15th.

Full report: Bristol Mayor sworn in

George Ferguson was today officially sworn in as the first elected Mayor of Bristol and soon after he was making policy changes. One of his first decisions was to scrap on-street parking charges on Sundays - introduced only three weeks ago.

He's also renamed the council headquarters City Hall - but with a growing budget deficit, there'll be much tougher decisions ahead. Watch our political correspondent Bob Constantine's report here.

Independent candidate George Ferguson has won the first ever Bristol Mayoral election. He beat off the challenge of Labour's Marvin Rees in the second round after also topping the first count. When second preference votes were declared, Mr Ferguson had won with 37,353 votes to Mr Rees' 31,259
