A 15-year-old girl drowned in a man-made lake when she and her cousins played a game with an inflatable boat unsupervised, an inquest heard today.

The inquest heard how neither Kajil Devi from Middlesex nor her young cousins could swim and the tragedy happened when they were briefly alone after their 18-year-old relative went to get some food.

The teenager fell off the boat in The Cotswold Water Park in Cirencester in August during the game.

She was later pronounced dead a day after being pulled from the water.

Verdict due at water park death inquest

A coroner will give his verdict this afternoon on the death of a 15-year-old girl who died at a lakeside beauty spot. Kajil Devi, from Feltham in Middlesex, was pronounced dead a day after being pulled from the water at the Cotswold Water Park at Cirencester, in August 2010.

The inquest has heard how the non-swimmer may have got out of her depth while bathing at the beach at the water park. Concerns have been raised about the number of lifeguards on duty to cope with the amount of people in the water that day.

Safety procedures have been tightened up at the park since the accident.
