Bristol City FC plan to focus on club's future

Bristol City Football Club say they're disappointed by the court's decision to allow campaigners to have a Judicial Review.

Bristol City chief executive Guy Price said: "whilst I am deeply disappointed by the latest decision, I am determined, along with the Board, to focus every resource at my disposal on what is most important for Bristol City Football Club's future.

"As chief executive, I cannot allow the ongoing uncertainty of the stadium plans to distract us from the day-to-day running of the club. I now expect everyone at the club to focus solely on the task-in-hand."

Bristol City Council disappointed with High Court Ruling

In a statement issues by Bristol City Council, they say:

Bristol City Council respects the Judge’s decision today on this matter of legal process, and will study it carefully over coming days, rather than issuing an instant analysis or detailed reaction.

We are of course disappointed that this means that we have many more months of uncertainty ahead, at least until a June hearing of the matter, and with it the certain prospect of bills for tens of thousands of pounds more of tax payers’ money in legal fees.

In essence though, the Court has still not actually examined or formed any view on the rightness of the decision taken last year by our cross-party committee of councillors to register (only) the southern 20 acres of the site as a Town and Village Green.

We are therefore back in a count-down to a full Court hearing of the issues.

Bristol City Football Club has been told campaigners against their planned new stadium will be allowed a judicial review.

The club wants to build a new 30,000-seater stadium at Ashton Vale.

Campaigners had said the site should be declared a ‘Village Green.’ This would mean the club could not have built on the land. Bristol City Council disagreed and said only some of the land should be a village green – the rest of the site could be built on.

A full hearing is expected in May or June this year.
