Natural outdoor heated swimming pools planned for land donated by farmer near Stroud
Fundraising has started for an outdoor swimming pool near Stroud which would be heated by water drawn from the earth.
A community group near Stroud is working to create two outdoor natural swimming pools.
The Stroud Waters project wants to “create a community outdoor bio-filtered natural pool”. Land at King's Stanley has been donated by a farmer which would be home to the two pools.
There will be five different swimming zones - lane swimming, circuit swimming, a dipping zone, a family area, and one section will be heated all year round.
Zones will be bookable for group activities such as fitness classes, schools, and team building exercises.
On site there will also be a sauna, cafe, changing rooms with showers, and places to sit around the pool.
No chemicals will be used in the water, and the pools will be lifeguarded too.
Last year a public consultation was held, and the next step is raising money for a feasibility study before any planning applications are submitted.
Money will be raised through grants, crowdfunding, private and community investment, and corporate sponsorship.
If everything goes to plan, work will begin later this year.
