A West Country football club is looking for an 'enthusiastic and energetic individual' to take on the role of their mascot, Sammy the Seagull.

Weston-super-Mare AFC said it is searching for someone to dress up as the 'feathery friend and beloved club mascot'.

The club issued a statement on its website: "As Sammy, you’ll have the chance to bring smiles to supporters at home men’s first team matches, making every visit to the Optima Stadium something to squawk about.

"Whether you’re soaring through pre-match activities or gliding across the pitch at half-time, you’ll help make Weston-super-Mare AFC the nest place to be."

The club is asking anyone with an interest in taking up the role, to get it touch with their admin team - they can email admin@wsmafc.co.uk.

The Somerset football club is nicknamed 'The Seagulls' and competes in the National League South, the sixth tier of English football.

Their next fixture will be on Saturday 11 January at 3pm, when they will face St Albans City at home.

The club is also raising money for Seagulls in the Community and Weston Hospicecare on Saturday - it's dubbed a 'Community Pay What You Want Day' where fans are encouraged are donate money to the charities.
