Gas upgrades set to cause disruption in four Cornwall towns for months
Four Cornish towns will see disruption over the next few months due to upgrades to the gas network.
Wales and West Utilities (WWU) will be carrying work in Redruth, St Ives, Truro and Newquay.
During this time motorists are advised to allow extra travel time.
Redruth
Work starts at the West End area, on Thursday 2 January.
WWU said: “barring any engineering difficulties the project will be finished by the end of May”.
The agreed traffic management will be in place:
Rolling multi-way traffic lights on West End (2 January – 22 April)
A footpath closure on Church Lane (27 January – 28 February)
Rolling traffic lights on Blowinghouse (7 April – 21 May)
Newquay
Work starts in the Gover lane area, on Thursday 2 January.
WWU said: “barring any engineering difficulties the project will be finished by the end of March”.
The agreed traffic management will be in place:
A road closure on Gover Lane, between the junctions of Bank Street and Beechfield Avenue (2 January – 28 March)
The one-way restriction on Beach Road will be removed between the junctions of Central Square to Gover Lane (2 January – 28 March)
St Ives
Work starts in the Back Road East area, on Thursday 2 January.
WWU said: “barring any engineering difficulties, it will complete during February.”
The agreed traffic management will be in place:
St Peter’s Street and Fish Street (2 January – 21 February)
Back Road East (6 January – 21 February)
Back Road West (27 January – 21 February)
Truro
Work starts in the Kenwyn Street area, on Thursday 2 January.
WWU said: “barring any engineering difficulties, it will complete during May.”
The agreed traffic management will be in place:
A closure on Kenwyn Street between the junctions of Little Castle Street and City Road (2 – 20 January)
A closure on Kenwyn Street between the junctions of Little Castle Street and Bosvigo Road, whilst City Road will also be closed between the junctions of Kenwyn Street and Calenick Street (20 January – 20 February)
A closure on Little Castle Street between the junctions of Kenwyn Street and River Street (3 February - 3 March)
A closure on Kenwyn Street between the junctions of Victoria Square and Little Castle Street (3 February - 3 March)
Wales & West Utilities Programme Controller, Abby Smith, said the work is "essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses".
She said engineers will aim to "make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum”.
