Bath Rugby reveal plans to turn The Rec into a state-of-the-art stadium with an 18,000 capacity
New plans which would see the historic home of Bath Rugby expand its capacity by more than 3,500 seats, to 18,000, have been unveiled.
The amended plans for The Rec, the home of the club for 130 years, also include lowering the heights of the East and West stand, and improving accessibility to the stadium.
A planning application has been submitted to Bath and North East Somerset Council and will be considered in the New Year.
Tarquin McDonald, Chief Executive of Bath Rugby, said: "This submission is another important milestone for the club and the city. We’ve listened closely to the community and our stakeholders, as well as the numerous statutory consultees that are invited to comment on planning applications, and we are committed to delivering a stadium that not only meets the needs of our fans but also respects the rich heritage of Bath.
"The amended submission showcases an exciting vision for the future, with significant public benefits that will positively contribute to the entire community. We now look forward to the Council bringing the proposals to a planning committee in the New Year."
The amended planning application follows feedback the club has taken on board since another application was lodged last year.
The club said its aim was to preserve the unique character of the surrounding area, with “enhanced landscaping” to the river, and a new Spring Gardens Walk.
Other features include:
A new curved roof which reduces the heights of the East and West stands, resulting in increased views of the city and surrounding hills.
A host of sustainability measures to support a target of net zero.
A riverside café/restaurant, along with a club shop and museum.
Significantly increased community use with new stadium facilities.
