Large fire at scrapyard near Bristol city centre caused 'accidentally', investigation finds
Fire crews say a huge blaze at a scrapyard in Bristol was started accidentally.
It broke out on New Gatton Road in St Werburgh's at around 2pm on Saturday 15 December.
Thick plumes of smoke could be seen over nearby homes and the M32 as residents were urged to keep their windows and doors shut.
The emergency services were called to the incident at 2.20pm but at its peak, around 50 firefighters, seven fire engines, and a water bowser were used to bring the it under control.
After an investigation, Avon Fire and Rescue Service said the cause of the fire was accidental.
A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue Service said: "On arrival, crews were met with a well development fire in an area containing approximately seven tonnes of scrap metal, including scrap household appliances.
"No one has been injured."
