A driver who tested positive for cocaine attempted to flee marked police cars - in reverse.

The silver Mini Cooper was spotted by officers while travelling over the Tamar Bridge.

According to Devon and Cornwall Police's No Excuse account the motorist began travelling "at speed" while crossing the bridge towards Saltash.

They then attempted to evade officers by ducking down a side street.

But when they were outfoxed by an officer who cut their route off they were left with no choice but to put their car into reverse.

Officers were able to stop the vehicle and apprehend the driver.

After officers checked the Mini's details they found it was uninsured.

The driver also tested positive for cocaine after taking a roadside drug test.

A post from Devon and Cornwall Police said: "#Mini saw a marked car and reacted by driving at speed over the Tamar Bridge into #Saltash - ducked down a side street and started to make off in reverse when met by one of our cars - vehicle uninsured and driver positive for cocaine on a roadside test #NoExcuse #Fatal5 #OpLimit."
