Staff at a Cornish pub were left shocked when a customer brought his large pet tortoise in for a pub lunch.

Roy Moody, from Isleworth in Middlesex, decided rather than leave his beloved Sulcata tortoise 'Two Eater' at home while he enjoyed a two-week stay in Cornwall, he’d take her with him.

The adventurous reptile enjoyed lunch at the highest pub in Cornwall - the Old Inn at St Breward - tucking into fresh tomatoes and a few of the inn’s famous chips.

As well as visiting the Old Inn, nine-year-old Two Eater, has also enjoyed a day on the beach at Polzeath.

Roy, who is staying in St Endellion, said: "Two Eater comes pretty much everywhere with me and really enjoys her trips out.

"She’s had some tomatoes and some of the chips at The Old Inn which she quickly tucked into. It’s the first pub she’s ever visited and she’s really enjoyed it.

"People keep going past and doing a double take - it’s not the sort of thing you normally see sat outside a pub and she has had a lot of attention.

"But the weather is good and she is loving the sunshine. And she’s looking forward to another beach visit."

Roy makes sure he keeps a close eye on Two Eater by taking her out on a harness, one designed normally for an Alsation. Although it’s questionable, being a tortoise, how far she’d get if she did escape. And how fast.

Roy said: "She loves walking but has a mind of her own.

"So I make sure she doesn’t scoot off by having her in a harness."

Pub owner Darren Wills said it is the first time a giant tortoise has visited the pub.

He said: "We get lots of dogs and horses, but this is beyond doubt the strangest pet we’ve ever had visit the pub.

"We are delighted Two Eater enjoyed her chips and tomatoes and look forward to welcoming her back for a return visit."
