Woman who killed her mother recaptured after escaping from secure unit in Somerset

A woman who went missing from a secure hospital where she was being detained after killing her mother has been found.

Laura Van Marle was subject to an indefinite hospital order after admitting manslaughter in 2021.

Officers from Avon and Somerset Police were searching for Marle, 43, who made off on foot from the facility in Wellington, Somerset on Friday 11 August.

A police statement said: "We are pleased to confirm that Laura Van Marle has been located following an earlier public appeal to find her.

"She was detained by Avon and Somerset Police officers this morning, Saturday 12 August.

We’d like to thank everyone who contacted us with information or shared our appeal."
