Toddler died after grandfather accidentally ran her over at Cornwall campsite, inquest told
A one-year-old girl was run over and killed by her grandfather's caravan at a Cornish campsite, an inquest heard.
Josephine Gordon - known as Josie - was 20 months old when she died at the scene of the tragic accident at Little Trethvas farm campsite near Helston in May.
She has been described as "absolutely magic" and "always happy" by her family.
The incident happened on the first day of a family holiday when Josie and her parents - who travelled down from their home in Nottingham - were meeting up with her grandparents and other family members.
Josie had been playing in puddles when she suddenly ended up on the gravel track ground - just minutes after her grandparents arrived in their car towing the caravan, the inquest heard.
Her mother, Hannah Bingham, said she thinks Josie may have crawled under the caravan to get something. She said: "Josie was playing in the puddles at the back of the caravan. She was having the time of her life."
The toddler was just a metre away from them when her grandfather Ian Gordon moved off in his car towing the caravan to get to their pitch.
Hannah said it was "just rolling forward under control" when she spotted her daughter on the ground.
She said: "It felt like seconds between seeing her playing in the puddles to seeing her on the floor".
Father, Harry Gordon instantly picked up his daughter, who was bleeding from her nose.
He gave her CPR but she sadly died at the scene.
Josie's mum, Hannah, paid tribute to her daughter saying she felt she had "struck gold" when she gave birth to her, as she "showed her what happiness is".
Josie's father, Harry Gordon, said he was also left in "total disbelief" at the tragedy. He said: "She was absolutely magic and always happy. Nothing overwhelmed her."
The caravan belonged to the toddler's grandfather Ian Gordon, a retired marketing and communications manager. He said: "There was nothing in front of me. I checked my wing mirrors. I pulled forwards very slowly.
"I was going forward for a few seconds, I heard Harry shout 'Josie's been run over by the caravan', I stopped and Harry picked her up."
The loving grandfather said he feels "painful memories and constant grief" over the death of their only grandchild and said her "short radiant life had been displaced by darkness".
The senior Cornwall coroner Andrew Cox was told a car towing a caravan had been crawling along the track when the driver felt a slight bump - and Josie had been run over by the wheels of the caravan.
A post mortem by Dr Thomas Grigor said Josie died from blunt force to the head and chest trauma. He said her injuries were unrecoverable.
An investigating officer, PC Scott Robinson, said it was possible Josie had "no perception of danger and put herself under the caravan".
Police found no speeding of vehicle defect issues and said nobody will face prosecution from the tragedy.
Coroner Mr Arrow described it at a "very unusual and desperately sad case".
The incident was recorded as a road traffic collision in which Mr Gordon had not seen Josie playing, in a "tragedy which unfolded in a few seconds".
