A man from Stroud who attacked someone before stealing keys to rob their house has been jailed.

John Munson, 38, of no fixed abode, appeared at Gloucester Crown Court on Monday 15 November where he was sentenced to four years and three months in prison for robbery, burglary and resisting a constable in the execution of duty.

Police were called to Westward Road on the evening of Friday 6 August after it was reported that Munson had attacked and robbed the man.

The court heard he punched the man before forcibly stealing his house keys. He then went on to force his way into his accommodation and steal mobiles phones and medication.

Munson was arrested later that day before being charged and remanded in custody where he remained throughout court proceedings. He pleaded to all three of the charges ahead of being sentenced.

As well as the prison sentence Munson became subject of a five-year long restraining order which prohibits him from contacting his victims directly or indirectly. It also means he cannot go to Westward Road in Stroud.

Sergeant Garrett Gloyn from the Stroud Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "I’ve known John since he was a teenager and the Stroud Neighbourhood Policing Team have made a number of efforts to help change his ways.

"This is a significant sentence which has resulted from some excellent work by local officers.

"I am hopeful that we can continue to work with John upon his release from prison.”
