Newquay Airport announces 37 job losses

Newquay Airport has confirmed that 30 members of staff have been made redundant.

There are a total of 37 job losses at the Cornish airport including resignations.

The 37 losses Include:

  • 16 voluntary redundancies

  • 7 resignations

  • 14 redundancies

It is not yet known in which sectors the jobs have been lost from, but those at risk included in cafes, retail and passenger services, as well as security, airside and office-based business support functions.

New routes will be leaving from the Cornish airport this Summer.

It comes after bosses announced in July that almost a third of staff members were at risk of losing their job because of the coronavirus lockdown.

The loss of business during the pandemic, coupled with the collapse of FlyBe which accounted for 70% of the airport's flights, meant that as many as 36 jobs were under threat.

Cornwall Council revealed that it could take years for passenger numbers to return to 'normal' levels.
