Loving home needed for dog called 'Prince' who was left tied to a sign outside Bristol animal sanctuary
A loving home needs to be found for a dog called Prince that was left tied to a sign outside an animal shelter in Bristol.
Staff members from Holly Hedge Animal Sanctuary found the abandoned Saluki tied to a sign at the entrance on Sunday 26 July.
He was left with a bag of dog food and a note saying, "My name is Prince, about 12 1/2 years old".
Holly Hedge Animal Sanctuary has thanked the dog's owner for making the "right" decision for their pet, acknowledging that Prince was clearly well loved but could not be looked after anymore.
It is thought Prince had only been left tied to the sign for a few minutes, as some of the sanctuary team only arrived on site a few minutes before they were told he was there.
After a vet examination, it was found Prince has a skin irritation, a build up of plaque on his teeth and sore limbs. He will need treatment at the sanctuary, including pain medication and possibly some physiotherapy.
A loving home now needs to be found for Prince while he stays at the sanctuary until he is back to full health. Staff there said, "Prince needs to feel as Royal as his name, so this is our mission. We want to help him feel and look better."
Staff at Holly Hedge have stressed there is "no judgement" at the shelter and it is a safe place for both humans and animals.
Like so many other businesses, Holly Hedge Animal Sanctuary has been adversely affected by the coronavirus pandemic and is asking members of the public for help to ensure it can continue to look after animals like Prince.
A spokesperson said, "With our fundraising events cancelled and so many animals in our care needing treatment, if you're able to help us with these costs we would be so grateful."
