Great Western Railway highlights West Country favourites in train announcer competition

A competition to find some terrific train announcers has shown the South West has a talented bunch of conductors in the making.

Great Western Railway have shared some of the top entries for their train announcer competition.

A shortlist will soon be drawn up to find the winner but entries came in from as far away as Australia.


We start with Herbie Simpson from Gloucester. The ten-year-old used his video to announce a journey to Weymouth.

In Exeter Edward Durbin, who is six, shared his video detailing a journey to London Paddington.

Nine-year-old Kayden Hill from Gloucester has a condition called cerebellar ataxia which affects his speech and coordination and he announced a journey to Swindon.

Maximilian Thomas, 14, from Exeter shared this more local journey to Barnstaple.

In North Tawton 11-year-old Ewan Kaczanow used included the 'bing bongs' in his announcement for the service to Bristol Temple Meads.

And despite being the other side of the world eight-year-old Lucas Ditchfield, from Geelong, near Melbourne accurately detailed the journey from Bristol Temple Meads to London Paddington.


The competition to win a #GWREnterTrainment pack including a set of GWR Top Trumps, a jigsaw and adventure pack was thought up to help parents keep their children entertained during the lockdown.
