Fire in Cornwall destroys two caravans and eight cars
A fire in St Erth in Cornwall has destroyed two caravans, eight vehicles, a shed and wasteland.
Several fire crews were sent to the site in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday 29 July).
Reports came into Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service just after 1.45am after a large fire was spotted on Green Lane.
Another 999 call came through shortly after from the occupant of a caravan at the site. They said the fire was in their mobile home and feared it would spread.
St Ives fire station sent a crew to the scene followed by crews from Tolvaddon and a water carrier from Helston.
A Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service statement said: "Crews had two hose reel jets and two breathing apparatus under rapid deployment."
"At 2.55am, crews confirmed along with the two caravans that eight vehicles were well alight and that the fire had also spread to a shed and an area of wasteland.
"Gas cylinders on scene had been cooled and considered safe and that two-breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets and a thermal imaging camera was in use.
"At 03.45am, firefighters confirmed that the fire had been extinguished and a fire investigation confirmed that the fire had started accidentally.
"Firefighters remained on scene damping down hot spots until 5.20am."
