A fox had to be rescued after it got its head wedged between a hinged wrought iron gate and wall in Clifton, Bristol

The mammal had been desperately trying to free himself, but just could not escape without help.

The young fox was helped to safety by RSPCA Animal Collection Officer Chris James.

Chris said: “Hands-on rescue and welfare is what it’s all about, everyday is spent helping animals to safety.

"Distressed wild animals often sadly find themselves trapped or injured in our towns and cities.

"From birds caught in netting, to mammals who’ve found themselves trapped like this poor fox, I’ve freed all sorts of animals from all sorts of sticky situations!"

Chris explained that animals frequently get trapped in discarded litter, including fishing hooks and lines and many others get caught in traps.

He said: “It’s amazing to be able to release an animal back to the wild -  it makes all the saddening sights, and those tricky and technical rescues worthwhile to see another safely returned where they belong.”
