Extinction Rebellion Bath attaches banners to world heritage site in climate change protest
Extinction Rebellion Bath has placed banners across Pulteney Bridge to highlight the issue of Climate Change.
The activists are calling for the government to commit to hitting their net-zero emissions target.
They say according to the government's own report, only four of the 21 vital measures to achieve net-zero emissions are on track.
The group is also calling for the post-covid economic recovery to focus on green jobs and technology.
Ros Pears came up with the idea and plans to stay in a kayak alongside the banners for the rest of the day.
She said: “We recognise some may be offended by the wording but we wanted a message that would make people sit up and take notice."
Another Extinction Rebellion member, Mat Thomas added: "The team was careful not to cause damage to the bridge."
"We recognise it’s a World Heritage monument but there is no heritage on a dead planet.”
“As the pandemic continues we mustn’t forget the far larger and growing threat of climate breakdown.”
