Lee Johnson sacked as Head Coach at Bristol City
Lee Johnson has been sacked as Bristol City Head Coach.
It comes as the Robins lost 1-0 to rivals Cardiff City at home on Saturday 4 July.
Current Assistant Head Coach Dean Holden will take over immediately in a caretaker capacity as the club look to appoint a successor.
City Chief Executive Mark Ashton said: "We recognise the huge amount of work that Lee has put in over the last four-and-a-half years to move this club forward and we thank him for all his efforts. There have been some special moments over those years and Lee has played a significant part in them.
"However, success in football is ultimately judged by results and league position and the Board believes that a change of management is needed now for Bristol City."
The club say it will be making no further comment at this stage as they prepare for next Wednesday’s championship match against Hull City.
Under Owner Steve Lansdown and CEO Mark Ashton Bristol City has been a club focused on sustainability, making gradual improvements each year, and using the development and sale of players to support their ambitions.
But, after nine games without a win, and sitting 12th in the table, many fans had been calling for Lee Johnson to leave.
Following the news fans were quick to thank Lee Johnson for his time at the club.
