A Bristol-made sequel to Chicken Run is coming to Netflix.

Two years after it was first promised, and twenty years after the original was released, Bristol-based Aardman Animations have confirmed Chicken Run 2 is happening.

The as-yet-untitled film, which will be directed by Flushed Away's Sam Fell, will catch up with Ginger, Rocky, and their little chick Molly as their "peaceful" island life is disrupted by a "new and terrible threat".

Original Chicken Run directors and stop-motion masters Peter Lord and Nick Park will return in producer and consulting roles respectively.

After the news was shared on social media, fans of the original were quick to react.

One Twitter user wrote: "The only good thing to happen since the start of 2020."

While another added: "Okay so I've just found out Chicken Run is now getting a sequel. BEST. NEWS. OF. 2020.”

The sequel will once again follow Ginger and Rocky and their little girl Molly.

A teaser reads: "Having pulled off a death-defying escape from Tweedy’s farm, Ginger has finally found her dream – a peaceful island sanctuary for the whole flock, far from the dangers of the human world.

"But back on the mainland, the whole of chicken-kind faces a new and terrible threat. For Ginger and her team, even if it means putting their own hard-won freedom at risk – this time, they're breaking in!"
