Royal Marine from North Devon runs Two Moors Way non-stop for charity

A Royal Marines commando, based RMB Chivenor in North Devon has run the Two Moors Way non-stop to raise funds for charity.

Before he set off, Corporal Ben Clough said he was inspired by members of the NHS during the coronavirus pandemic. He said, "This will be a truly colossal challenge but with the awe-inspiring NHS, who at this time find themselves battling heroically on the front line against the COVID-19 virus. I believe anything is achievable, especially this challenge."

Ben Clough took just under 29 hours to complete the gruelling 111 mile-long route, running from Wembury Beach near Plymouth to Lynmouth on the edge of Exmoor.

Take a look at the statistics - it was quite a climb:

A lot of Ben's motivation was the fact he was doing the challenge to raise money for two good causes.

The first of these is the Royal Marines Charity (RMA), whose mission is to provide support, advice and friendship to servicing and retired Royal Marines, their families and those with close links to the marines.

Ben's second charity is Macmillan Cancer Support, which provides specialist health care, information and financial support to people affected by cancer. Ben says, "With the passing of my Grandma Shirley a few years back from breast cancer this is a charity I feel very passionate about and one I have been wanting to represent for a while."
