Construction of the UK’s first purpose-built socially-distanced restaurant is underway in Cornwall.

The restaurant at St Moritz Hotel & Spa in Trebetherick, which has been nicknamed The Anti-Social Club, is due to open on 4 July.

The venue will cater for up to 96 people at a time, spread out among 16 private dining rooms, while food and drink will be served via a set of hatches.

The concept was designed by brothers Hugh and Steve Ridgway, who own the hotel.

The hospitality sector, which includes hotels, pubs and restaurants, is expected to be given the go-ahead to start reopening by the Government on 4 July.

The decision, however, will only be approved if the spread of coronavirus remains low.

The Government is also reportedly considering relaxing social distancing rules, meaning people may no longer have to remain two metres apart.

Mr Ridgeway added the restaurant will initially only cater for hotel guests but might open to the wider public at a later date if restrictions allow.
