Two people have been arrested on suspicion of murder after suspected human remains were found in the Forest of Dean.

Forensic tests are being carried out on the discovery, which was made on the outskirts of Coleford just after 11.30pm on Tuesday 12 May.

A woman from Birmingham in her 20s, and a man from Wolverhampton in his 30s are being held on suspicion of murder.

Police have sealed off a large area at the entrance to Stowfield Quarry, but it is not clear where the suspected remains were found.

A spokesman for Gloucestershire Police said: "Due to an ongoing police investigation road closures and scene guards are in place on the A4136 between Monmouth and Coleford."

As well as the quarry, the closed section also contains a fishery, a former sawmill which now contains storage unit, several houses and a campsite.

A resident who lives within the cordon told Gloucestershire Live: "I don't know what's happening.

"I didn't notice anything until I drove down the road and came to the road block. I asked if I could go through and they said yes but I might not be able to get back in again.

"One of the officers said the road might be closed for a few days so it must be serious."

Where are the road blocks?

The main A4136 from Cinderford to Monmouth was blocked off at thebottom of the hill at Monmouth and there was a further roadblock atthe Coleford traffic lights.

The roadblock at the lights was stopping traffic from Monmouth andStaunton turning right into Coleford or heading past the fishery toBerry Hill and beyond.

Another road block further up the A4136 stopped traffic from arrivingfrom Berry Hill and Cinderford direction reaching the Coleford lights.

The Staunton Road leading from Coleford was blocked at the RedbrookRoad at one end and the traffic lights with the A4136 at the other.
