Vandals who targeted police vehicle parked outside Newquay Police Station could have caused a 'serious accident'

Vandals who deliberately targeted a police vehicle in Newquay could have caused a serious accident, according to Devon and Cornwall Police.

The fuel pipe was cut on the marked Ford Transit, and its brakes were tampered with.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident, which happened last Wednesday (April 15).

Police believe the vehicle was targeted between 3.30pm on Wednesday April 15 and 9.30am the following day.

It was parked in a designated bay in the car park outside Newquay Police Station and the town’s railway station in Tolcarne Road.

The damage was first noticed when an officer attending an incident on Thursday April 16 spotted a large pool of fuel under the van.

It was recovered and a force mechanic later discovered the vehicle’s fuel pipe had been cut and its rear brake pipes were damaged.
