Man in his 50s dies from coronavirus at Salisbury Hospital in Wiltshire

A man has died from the COVID-19 strand of coronavirus at Salisbury Hospital in Wiltshire.

The hospital tweeted today [March 16] that the man in his 50s tested positive for the virus after he died last week.

The hospital has confirmed that the man had underlying health conditions. The family of the man have been informed about the cause of death.

Tracy Daszkiewicz, director of public health at Wiltshire Council also added her condolences to the man's family.

There are currently two confirmed cases in Somerset and two confirmed cases in Bath and North East Somerset.

Over the weekend North Somerset Council confirmed that a former Avon and Somerset Police officer, 59-year-old Nick Matthews, had passed away in the early hours of Saturday morning (March 14).

Mr Matthews had underlying health conditions when he tested positive for COVID-19 and was being cared for at the Bristol Royal Infirmary.
