World Pilot Gig Championships on Isles of Scilly cancelled amid coronavirus outbreak

The World Pilot Gig Championships on the Isles of Scilly have been cancelled amid fears over the spread of coronavirus.

An announcement was posted on the Championships' official Facebook page on Saturday 14 March:

It comes as events across the UK are being cancelled in light of coronavirus concerns.

Despite mass cancellations, organisers of the Bath Half Marathon - due to be held tomorrow (Sunday 15 March) - and Glastonbury Festival have confirmed both events will go ahead.

However it is unclear how those decisions will be affected by impending government legislation, which could see a ban on mass gatherings to alleviate pressure on the emergency services.

Organisers of the 2020 gig championships confirmed the event will not be rescheduled and will return in 2021.

Those who have registered to take part will receive full refunds and have been advised to keep checking the official website for further information.

For people who have booked with Isles of Scilly Travel, the company is asking customers not to call and instead wait for someone to get in touch:
