Police reassure public after closing two Bristol stations because of Chinese detainee's 'flu-like symptoms'

Avon and Somerset Police has moved to reassure the public after closing two stations because a Chinese detainee was displaying 'flu-like symptoms'.

The Chinese city of Wuhan has been put on lockdown with experts believing it was where the deadly new coronavirus emerged.

Patchway Police Centre and Trinity Road Police Station in Bristol were both closed for around five hours yesterday evening.

According to police, there were "initial concerns that the detainee, a Chinese national, may have had contact with people who had recently travelled from the Wuhan area of China".

Officers involved in the arrest had travelled to Trinity Road station which is why it was also temporarily closed.

The force says it has had medical confirmation this is not a case of coronavirus.
