Plans to redevelop Plymouth's iconic Civic Centre approved

Plans to redevelop Plymouth's iconic Civic Centre have been approved.

Plymouth City Council's planning committee gave their backing to the proposals during a meeting. The scheme will see the former council offices converted into more than a hundred homes, shops, cafes and a gym.

Firm Urban Splash bought the 15-storey Civic Centre from Plymouth City Council in January 2016. Early last year a planning application was submitted with detailed designs for the site's future.

The firm says they want the square around the Grade II listed building to become 'a vibrant cultural location'.
