Man jailed for road rage killing of ex-Royal Marine from Somerset

A labourer has been jailed for 16 years after killing a former Royal Marine from Somerset during a road rage incident.

Tarkan Agca drove off at speed after ploughing into 63-year-old Andrej Szaruta, from Bridgwater, on the A303 in Wiltshire last June.

Mr Szaruta, who was a former sergeant major in the Royal Marines, had exited his vehicle to confront Agca after being tailgated.

But as Mr Szaruta approached the defendant’s BMW, Agca accelerated.

The labourer, from Watford, struck the 63-year-old and then quickly drove off - leaving Mr Szaruta with fatal injuries.

He was later flown to hospital but sadly died two days later, while Agca was arrested in Watford the following day.

During an interview with Wiltshire Police, the defendant denied being involved in the collision - suggesting he didn’t know where the A303 was or own a car.

But Agca pleaded guilty to manslaughter last month and was today sentenced to an extended prison term of 16 years.

The judge added she considered Agca a “dangerous” offender and said he needed to address his “serious anger management issues”.

As well as his prison sentence, Agca was also banned from driving for 10 years and four months and ordered to take an extended retest.

Mr Szaruta’s wife, Susan, said in a statement she had lost her “best friend”.
