84-year-old dies after becoming trapped under vehicle driven by 'life-long friend'
A pensioner has died after becoming trapped underneath a vehicle driven by her "life-long friend".
Police were called to All Saints' Church on Exeter Road in Exmouth on Tuesday (10 December) after the 84-year-old woman became trapped beneath the car in the church car park.
Both the woman and the driver of the car, also 84-years-old, had been attending an over 60s Christmas event held in the church hall.
A statement from the church confirmed the pair were "life-long friends".
Police, paramedics, and the fire service all attended the incident which happened shortly after 4:45pm on Tuesday - the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a statement, Father Owen Murphy of All Saints' Church said the community was "saddened and devastated" by the incident.
The church is open for people to offer "prayers and to light a candle".
Police are carrying out a "thorough investigation" and the road was closed on Tuesday night for a "forensic examination".
