General Election 2019: West Country Battlegrounds Totnes

We have looked at five constituencies in the East of the region and five constituencies in the West of the region that will have the closest battles between the political parties.

Where are the West Country battlegrounds?

  • Bath

  • Camborne and Redruth

  • Cheltenham

  • North Devon

  • Plymouth Sutton and Devonport

  • South Swindon

  • St Ives

  • Stroud

  • Totnes

  • Wells

On the face of it, Totnes is a safe Conservative seat. The maths from last time showed them way out ahead, but the elected Conservative MP in 2017 defected to the Liberal Democrats, so the party has it in its sights.

In the years before the coalition government the Liberal Democrats came very close to winning the seat numerous times, although it has voted Tory for the best part of a century.

There was also a tight call between leave and remain voters, with 53.89% voting to leave and 46.11% voting to remain.
