Lorry driver's lucky escape after sandbag launched through window on M5 near Tewkesbury
A lorry driver on the M5 near Tewkesbury had a lucky escape after a sandbag was deliberately smashed through his windscreen while he was driving.
The vehicle was travelling south just before Junction 9 when the driver saw three people standing on the bridge. He says one of them threw the sandbag at the lorry.
As it smashed it narrowly missed the driver, spraying sand all around the inside of the vehicle.
Despite being very shocked, the driver managed to keep his lorry under control and stop safely.
Gloucestershire Police are now appealing for information about the incident, which happened last night (Thursday 31 October) near Tewkesbury.
The driver described the three youngsters standing on the bridge as being aged around 15-16 years old, quite short and all wearing dark clothing.
Police are appealing to any passing motorists who may have seen a group of teenagers in the area close to the junction or on the Northway Lane bridge to contact them, in particular anyone who may have dash-cam footage.
