Investigation as 'young children fall ill' at Mullion Holiday Park in Cornwall

An investigation has been launched after nearly 40 guests, including young children, fell ill at a holiday park in Cornwall.

Paramedics were called to the Mullion Holiday Park in Helston at about 10.30am on Thursday.

Public Health England says those affected have reported 'diarrhoea, vomiting, nausea and abdominal cramps', but that most people 'appear to have recovered quickly'.

There have been 38 reported incidents including 8 adults and 30 children.

One dad said: 'All five of us have been up all night vomiting, diarrhoea and getting dehydrated. The local health authorities have been brilliant and have taken our daughter to hospital for observation.'

Another mum posted on Facebook saying: 'My daughter is poorly , started last night , it isn't food poisoning because she didn't eat there.'

Those affected have reported mild-to-moderate illness including diarrhoea, vomiting, nausea and abdominal cramps. It is good news that most of the affected individuals appear to have recovered quickly. Our advice for anyone else affected is to drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration and stay away from work, school and nursery until you have been symptom free for 48 hours. If symptoms continue, please contact your GP. PHE is working with environmental health officers to ensure that appropriate precautions and procedures are in place to minimise risk. Following a visit by environmental health officers to the park this afternoon (Thursday) we are reassured that infection control measures are in place and there are no on-going concerns with food safety and hygiene.”
